Wilmington, DE – A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Delaware and Maryland’s Upper Eastern Shore from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday due to gusty winds and low humidity, increasing the risk of fast-spreading fires.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, northwest winds will reach 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Humidity levels will drop as low as 25%, creating dry conditions that can cause fires to ignite and spread rapidly. Temperatures will range from the 50s to low 60s.

The warning affects New Castle, Kent, Inland Sussex, and Delaware Beaches, as well as Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, and Caroline counties in Maryland. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, as any fire that develops may become uncontrollable.

Residents should take precautions, including avoiding open flames, securing outdoor debris, and checking local burn restrictions. For updates on wildfire danger and safety measures, visit state forestry or environmental protection websites.
