Wilmington, DE – Delawareans are waking to a crisp 19°F chill this morning, but change is quickly on the horizon. A midweek winter weather system will bring a mix of snow and rain Wednesday, making for potentially slick travel across New Castle County and the I-95 corridor.
According to the National Weather Service, light snow is possible before sunrise Wednesday, followed by a transition to rain by late morning as temperatures rise toward 45°F. Winds from the southwest could gust up to 20 mph, adding bite to damp conditions. Though only a trace to half-inch of snow is expected, early flakes could stick long enough to make untreated roads and sidewalks slippery during the morning commute.
By afternoon, steady rain will overtake much of northern Delaware before tapering off Wednesday night. Thursday brings a return to sunny skies and highs near 39°F, while Friday remains cool but bright — ideal for early holiday errands and travel. Another weak system could bring light snow chances Friday night into Saturday as colder air returns across the Mid-Atlantic.
Residents should allow extra travel time Wednesday morning, particularly along I-95, Route 13, and bridges crossing into Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Temperatures near freezing could briefly create icy patches, especially before sunrise.
