Chicago, IL – A dangerous Arctic air mass will sweep across Illinois and the Midwest starting Monday, bringing bitter cold, gusty winds, and snow. Wind chills will plummet as low as -25°F, creating hazardous conditions for commuters and outdoor activities.
According to the National Weather Service, Monday’s high will struggle to reach 12°F, with overnight lows dipping near 0°F. Snow showers, including lake-effect snow near Lake Michigan, will make travel difficult, particularly on I-80 and I-94. Strong northwest winds could create blowing and drifting snow.
By midweek, conditions remain frigid, with highs barely reaching the teens and wind chills staying dangerously low. Light snow is expected Wednesday and Thursday, with a slight warming trend arriving by Friday.
Residents should prepare for extreme cold by limiting outdoor exposure, dressing in layers, and ensuring pets stay indoors. Drivers should keep emergency kits in their vehicles and check road conditions before traveling.
Stay updated on changing forecasts, as additional snow and wind advisories may be issued.
