Charleston, WV – A cold weather advisory has been issued for Northwest Pocahontas and Southeast Randolph counties, with dangerously low wind chills expected beginning Friday evening.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory will take effect at 7 p.m. Friday and remain in place until 7 a.m. Sunday. Wind chills as low as 20 degrees below zero are anticipated, posing risks of frostbite on exposed skin within 30 minutes.
Residents in the affected areas, including Harman and Snowshoe, are urged to take precautions. Proper attire such as heavy clothing, hats, and gloves is recommended for those venturing outside. Additionally, residents are advised to check on vulnerable neighbors and ensure the safety of pets by providing warm shelters and unfrozen water.
Portable heaters should be used with caution, and generators or grills should not be used indoors due to carbon monoxide risks.
