Charleston, WV – An extreme cold warning is in effect for parts of West Virginia, with dangerously low wind chills expected through Thursday morning. The National Weather Service issued the warning for several counties, including Randolph, Webster, and Pocahontas.

According to the National Weather Service, the coldest wind chills, as low as 25 below zero, are anticipated through 8 a.m. Thursday in Southeast Randolph, Northwest Pocahontas, and Southeast Webster counties. Additional areas, including Raleigh, Fayette, and Nicholas counties, can expect wind chills of 13 below zero from 7 p.m. Tuesday until 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Officials warn that prolonged exposure to these conditions can lead to frostbite in as little as 30 minutes. Hypothermia is also a serious risk without adequate precautions.

Residents are advised to limit outdoor exposure, dress in layers, and protect exposed skin. To prevent frozen pipes, consider allowing faucets to drip and wrapping pipes with insulation.
