Detroit, MI – A winter storm is set to bring heavy snow, freezing rain, and dangerously cold temperatures to southeast Michigan through Washington’s Birthday. Drivers should prepare for hazardous travel as wind gusts approach 40 mph and snow accumulations reach up to six inches.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Watch will be in effect from Saturday evening through Sunday, with a Winter Weather Advisory active Saturday from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. Snow will intensify Saturday night, mixing with sleet and freezing rain before transitioning to steady snowfall on Sunday. Northeast winds could create blowing snow and poor visibility.

By Monday, temperatures will plummet, with highs barely reaching 20°F and wind chills dropping below zero. Roads will remain icy, and additional snow showers are possible. Those traveling for the holiday should check road conditions and expect slower-than-normal commutes.

The bitter cold will persist into next week, with highs struggling to reach the 20s and overnight lows in the single digits. Residents should dress in layers, limit time outdoors, and prepare for possible power outages.
