Springfield, WI – A head-on collision on Highway 19 claimed one life and left another person hospitalized Thursday afternoon.

Dane County Sheriff’s deputies responded at 12:41 p.m. to the crash near Barman Road. A 55-year-old man driving a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, a 51-year-old woman, was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Snow-covered and slippery roads contributed to the crash, authorities said. The two vehicles collided head-on while traveling opposite directions.

Highway 19 remains closed between Lodi Springfield Road and Kuehn Road as deputies and crash reconstruction teams investigate. The closure is expected to last several hours. Drivers are urged to find alternate routes and exercise caution in the area.

This tragic accident underscores the dangers of driving in hazardous winter conditions. Authorities recommend reducing speed and maintaining safe distances during snowstorms.
