Albuquerque, NM – A High Wind Watch has been issued for several areas in New Mexico starting Tuesday evening. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of potentially damaging winds affecting the Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains, East Slopes Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Central Highlands, Northeast Highlands, and Guadalupe County.

According to the NWS, west winds could reach sustained speeds of 35 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph. The watch will remain in effect until Wednesday morning. The strongest winds are expected overnight, making travel hazardous, particularly for high-profile vehicles.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and prepare for possible power outages. Damaging winds could bring down trees and power lines, further impacting the region. Those traveling through north-to-south roadways should exercise caution as crosswinds may become dangerous.

Officials recommend monitoring updated forecasts for potential changes or escalations to warnings. Stay informed to ensure safety during this weather event.
