Denver, CO – Colorado residents in the plains southeast of Denver face a critical fire risk Tuesday due to high winds and low humidity levels. The National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder issued a Red Flag Warning from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., warning that wind gusts could reach up to 50 mph.
According to the NWS, humidity is expected to drop between 13% and 15%, which, combined with strong southwest winds, creates a severe fire hazard. The warning spans several areas, including Limon, Burlington, and Wray, where fire conditions are especially pronounced.
The NWS advises residents to avoid outdoor fires and any activities that could create sparks, as these conditions could trigger fast-moving wildfires. Outdoor equipment, such as chainsaws or grills, should also be used with caution due to the increased fire danger.
Officials urge residents to monitor updates and take extra fire-safety precautions to prevent potential wildfires from rapidly spreading.
