Corpus Christi, Texas – Severe thunderstorms could hammer parts of South Texas from Thursday afternoon through early Friday morning, with large hail, damaging winds, and flash flooding possible across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, a Level 2 out of 5 risk for both severe storms and excessive rainfall covers much of the Coastal Bend and South Texas. Areas including Corpus Christi, Victoria, Kingsville, and Alice may see multiple rounds of storms capable of producing hail larger than one inch and wind gusts exceeding 60 mph. A 15% chance of flash flooding accompanies the heaviest downpours.
Localized flooding may affect low-lying roads, especially in urban zones and areas that experience repeat thunderstorms. Drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roads and monitor rapidly changing conditions. Communities along U.S. Route 77 and I-37 should stay alert into the overnight hours.
The active weather pattern is expected to shift by Friday afternoon as drier conditions move in from the west. However, any storms that develop tonight could be strong enough to trigger additional alerts.
Severe thunderstorm and flood watches may be issued later today. Residents should keep phones charged and enable emergency alerts as storms continue through Friday morning.
