Springfield, Ill. – Rain could dampen parts of Central Illinois on Thursday, especially south of I-72, but warmer and drier weather is on the horizon heading into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, scattered showers are likely during the day Thursday, with temperatures ranging from 68 to 75 degrees. Friday brings another chance of isolated showers, particularly east of I-55, as highs climb into the upper 70s.
By Saturday and Sunday, conditions turn noticeably warmer. Highs will range from 78 to 85 degrees across much of the region, with skies clearing and humidity on the rise. Cities like Bloomington, Decatur, and Champaign will enjoy dry afternoons, making it a good weekend for outdoor plans.
Low temperatures tonight will dip into the low 50s across most areas—Galesburg and Pontiac may see 51°F—while Springfield and Effingham will stay slightly milder in the mid-50s. Drivers should remain cautious during early morning hours as patchy fog may develop in cooler pockets.
Rain chances diminish by late Friday, and no additional alerts are currently in effect. The next update from the NWS is expected Thursday morning.
