Springfield, Mass. – Scattered severe storms could slam parts of Massachusetts and northern Connecticut between 2 and 10 p.m. Friday, with damaging winds and urban flooding posing the greatest threats.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston, the highest local risk lies across central and western Massachusetts, including Springfield, Worcester, Amherst, and Leominster. Northern Connecticut cities like Enfield and Hartford are also in the elevated risk zone. The primary concern is strong wind gusts capable of downing trees and power lines, with street-level flooding possible during heavy downpours.

Communities in the Level 2 risk area—marked in yellow on the NWS map—should stay weather-aware, especially if traveling during the late afternoon commute. Outdoor events may be disrupted, and residents are urged to secure loose items and have a way to receive alerts.

Storm threats are expected to taper off after 10 p.m., but further updates or advisories may be issued if storm intensity increases Friday afternoon.
