Columbus, Ohio – Snow and a light glaze of ice are creating slick highways across central and southern Ohio this morning, with up to 2 inches of accumulation expected to snarl traffic on I-70, I-71 and I-75 through 11 a.m. Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. for a broad stretch of central, southwest and south-central Ohio, as well as southeast Indiana and northern Kentucky. Areas including Franklin, Madison, Clark, Darke, Miami and Shelby counties could see 1 to 2 inches of snow. Farther south toward Cincinnati, Portsmouth and Chillicothe, mixed precipitation will bring up to 1 inch of snow and sleet along with a light glaze of ice.
Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, are likely to become slick and hazardous during the morning commute. In Columbus, snow is coating I-270 and US-33, while Dayton commuters along I-75 and US-35 face reduced visibility in heavier bursts. Along the Ohio River, including Cincinnati and Portsmouth, thin ice may develop on untreated surfaces.
Officials urge drivers to slow down, increase following distance and check real-time road conditions at OHGO.com, 511in.org for Indiana and GoKY.ky.gov for Kentucky travel updates.
Precipitation will taper late this morning, with gradual improvement expected after 11 a.m. as temperatures inch above freezing. Additional updates may be issued if snowfall rates briefly intensify or icing lingers longer than anticipated.
