Columbia, South Carolina – Temperatures across central and southern South Carolina will climb into the upper 80s to near 90 degrees today, with isolated thunderstorms possible by afternoon across the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA).
According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, a weak front positioned south of the region will trigger limited shower and thunderstorm activity, mainly impacting counties near the Georgia border. Severe weather is not expected, but brief downpours and lightning can’t be ruled out, particularly in Aiken, Barnwell, and Edgefield counties.
Skies will remain partly cloudy with high-level clouds filtering the sun throughout the day. The heat will be persistent despite cloud cover, making hydration and sun protection important for outdoor plans. Winds remain light, offering little relief from the afternoon warmth.
No major disruptions are forecast for travel or utilities, but residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware if venturing outside this afternoon. Evening temperatures will fall into the 60s, offering a mild end to the day.
Thunderstorm chances may return early next week as frontal boundaries shift. Another update will follow if conditions change.
