Pueblo, CO – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for portions of the Colorado mountains, with heavy snow and strong winds expected to create hazardous conditions through Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the advisory covers the Eastern Sawatch Mountains above 11,000 feet and the Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Snowfall is anticipated to range from 3 to 7 inches, accompanied by wind gusts reaching up to 65 mph. The advisory begins at 6 p.m. Thursday for the Eastern Sawatch Mountains and at 9 p.m. Thursday for the Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Both advisories remain in effect until noon MDT Friday.
The expected snowfall and high winds could cause slippery road conditions and significantly reduced visibility due to blowing snow. Travelers in affected areas, including Bonanza, Spanish Peaks, Cuchara, Stonewall, and Weston, are urged to exercise caution and plan for difficult travel conditions.
The National Weather Service advises slowing down and allowing extra time for travel. For real-time road conditions, residents can call 511.
