Denver, CO – A winter storm is set to impact Colorado’s mountain regions, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds through Friday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Denver, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for areas above 9,000 feet, including Summit County, the Mosquito Range, the Indian Peaks, Rabbit Ears Pass, and Rocky Mountain National Park. The advisory begins Wednesday at 8 p.m. for western Jackson and Grand counties and extends from Thursday at 3 p.m. for central mountain regions, lasting until 11 p.m. Friday.
Snowfall accumulations are expected to range between 4 to 14 inches, with the heaviest snowfall occurring Friday afternoon and evening. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions with reduced visibility and snow-covered roads. Commuters should prepare for difficult driving during Thursday evening and Friday morning travel periods.
Travelers are urged to slow down and use caution. Road conditions can be monitored by calling 511 or visiting www.cotrip.org for the latest updates.
Residents and visitors in affected areas should be prepared for winter weather conditions and plan accordingly. Those heading into the mountains should carry emergency supplies, including extra layers, food, and water, in case of delays due to road closures or severe weather conditions.
