Grand Junction, CO – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for portions of western Colorado, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds to higher elevations through Friday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, the advisory is in place from 5 a.m. Thursday until 11 p.m. Friday for the Roan and Tavaputs Plateaus, as well as the Uncompahgre Plateau and Dallas Divide. Areas above 7,500 feet could see between 6 and 12 inches of snowfall, with wind gusts reaching up to 60 mph in some locations.

The storm is expected to create hazardous travel conditions, especially during the morning and evening commutes. Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility, and strong winds may cause tree damage. Motorists traveling through these regions are advised to exercise caution, allow extra travel time, and carry emergency supplies in their vehicles.

The heavy snow and gusty winds could also impact outdoor activities and backcountry travel, increasing the risk of avalanches. The National Weather Service recommends monitoring the latest forecasts and preparing for rapidly changing weather conditions.

Residents and travelers in affected areas should stay updated on road closures and weather alerts from the Colorado Department of Transportation and local authorities. Conditions are expected to improve by late Friday night as the storm system moves out of the region.
