Denver, CO – A powerful winter storm continues to impact Colorado’s high elevations, with heavy snowfall and dangerous travel conditions expected through early Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Denver, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 AM MST Tuesday for areas above 9,000 feet, including Rocky Mountain National Park, Medicine Bow Range, Summit County, and Rabbit Ears Pass. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 8 inches are expected, with wind gusts reaching 40 mph in some locations.
Roads across the region are covered in snow and ice, making travel hazardous. Officials warn that some routes may become difficult or impossible to navigate, especially in mountain passes such as Berthoud Pass, Eisenhower Tunnel, and Rabbit Ears Pass. The Monday evening commute will be significantly impacted.
Travelers are urged to check CoTrip.org for road closures and traction laws before heading out. If driving is necessary, carry an emergency kit with food, water, and a flashlight.
This storm continues a pattern of heavy winter weather across the Rockies, reinforcing the need for caution in high-altitude travel.
