Pueblo, CO – A major winter storm is set to impact Colorado’s mountain regions beginning late Monday night, bringing heavy snow and gusty winds.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Eastern Sawatch Mountains above 11,000 feet, as well as the La Garita and Eastern San Juan Mountains above 10,000 feet. Snowfall totals are expected to range from 10 to 40 inches, with wind gusts reaching 45 mph.
According to the alert, the warning will remain in effect from 11 p.m. Monday through 5 a.m. Thursday. Travel conditions are likely to be treacherous, particularly during Tuesday’s commutes. Authorities have warned of possible road closures and falling tree branches due to the storm.
Travelers are urged to prepare by carrying flashlights, food, and water in vehicles. Updates on road conditions are available by dialing 511.
Residents in the affected areas should stay updated on changing conditions and avoid unnecessary travel. Snow and high winds are expected to persist throughout the duration of the storm, potentially causing power outages and further disruptions.
