Denver, Colorado – Mountain drivers could face treacherous conditions by early Tuesday as a potent spring storm dumps up to 22 inches of snow across the Colorado Rockies, with impacts expected to last through Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Denver, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for high-elevation areas above 9,000 feet, including Rocky Mountain National Park, Berthoud Pass, and the Indian Peaks Wilderness. Snow will begin accumulating Monday afternoon with the heaviest snowfall expected from Tuesday morning through late Tuesday night.

Communities and roadways at risk include the I-70 corridor east of the Eisenhower Tunnel, US 40 near Winter Park, and Highway 14 over Cameron Pass. The Front Range mountains could see totals exceeding two feet at the highest elevations, while valleys around Summit County and Vail Pass may see lighter amounts. The hazardous conditions are expected to significantly impact both morning and evening commutes on Tuesday.

Further south, areas near La Veta Pass and Woodland Park could also receive 8 to 16 inches of snow, according to the Pueblo NWS office. Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, may quickly become slick and dangerous.

Snow is expected to taper off by early Wednesday, though additional advisories may follow if totals exceed projections. Drivers should avoid non-essential travel and monitor local alerts for updates.
