Grand Junction, CO – A second winter storm system is set to bring heavy snowfall and below-average temperatures to Grand Junction and surrounding areas beginning Tuesday. Residents should brace for icy roads, particularly along Interstate 70, and prepare for accumulating snow that could impact travel and daily routines.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, the first wave of snow showers is expected to start Tuesday afternoon and continue overnight, likely leading to slippery conditions on local roads. The northern mountain areas may see 5 to 10 inches of snow, while higher elevations in the southern mountains could receive up to 24 inches by Wednesday evening.

Tuesday’s high is forecasted at 50 degrees before dropping to 28 degrees overnight, with snow showers increasing into the evening. By Wednesday, snow will persist, and temperatures are set to plunge further, with highs only reaching 43 degrees, accompanied by a continued chance of snow. These conditions are anticipated to linger, with a slight chance of snow showers continuing into Wednesday night as temperatures drop again to the mid-20s.

For the remainder of the week, residents should expect colder-than-normal temperatures. Thursday will see a high near 45 degrees, but no further snow is anticipated as skies clear. The cooler trend continues into Friday, with a high of 47 degrees and partly sunny skies. Overnight lows are expected to remain in the mid-20s, marking a week of unseasonably cold conditions.

Drivers on I-70 and other routes should proceed with caution, as reduced visibility and slick roads are likely through the midweek. The National Weather Service advises residents to keep emergency kits in vehicles and stay updated on local forecasts as conditions evolve.
