Denver, CO – Residents in Denver and the surrounding areas should brace for hazardous travel conditions as a winter storm is set to bring heavy snow on Wednesday. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch from 5 p.m. Tuesday through 5 p.m. Wednesday, with significant snow accumulation expected across the southern Foothills and Palmer Divide.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, snow is forecast to begin late Tuesday, intensifying overnight and into Wednesday. This storm could deposit between 5 to 10 inches in some areas, with slippery road conditions likely impacting the morning commute. Those traveling along major routes such as I-25 should exercise caution, as reduced visibility and snow-covered roads could make driving hazardous.

Commuters are encouraged to monitor local updates and consider alternate routes or delay travel if possible. The heaviest snow is anticipated in higher elevations, though light to moderate snowfall could extend into the Denver metro area, potentially leading to slick and challenging driving conditions on secondary roads and highways.

The mid-week forecast remains complex, as models show variability in the storm’s track and intensity. If the storm strengthens, snow may continue through Thursday, adding to already challenging conditions, particularly in the eastern plains and Front Range. Temperatures are expected to drop, with highs near 35°F on Wednesday and lows in the 20s, making any untreated surfaces icy by evening.

The National Weather Service advises residents to prepare for cold temperatures and potential disruptions. Keep winter travel kits in vehicles, including blankets, water, and emergency supplies, and stay tuned for updated forecasts as the storm progresses.

Looking ahead, Thursday may see a chance of continued snow showers, with some clearing by Friday and Saturday, although cold conditions will persist into the weekend.
