Pueblo, CO – A powerful winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall to southern Colorado on Friday, with rates of up to one inch per hour expected. The storm will impact the I-25 corridor and surrounding areas, creating dangerous travel conditions through the evening.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pueblo, the heaviest snow will fall Friday morning, tapering off by midday. However, travel impacts will continue into the afternoon commute, with low visibility and slick roads posing risks for drivers. Areas in El Paso and Pueblo counties could see locally higher snowfall totals.
Snow accumulation is expected to be highest in the southeast mountains and the Palmer Divide, where some locations could receive up to six inches. Residents should prepare for rapidly changing road conditions and allow extra time for travel.
The winter storm will move out by late Friday night, giving way to drier but cold conditions for the weekend. Temperatures will remain in the 20s and 30s, with another potential storm system approaching early next week.
Motorists should check road conditions before traveling and stay updated with the latest forecasts.
