Denver, Colorado – Strong spring storms return to the Denver metro Thursday, bringing a renewed threat of cloud-to-ground lightning, slick roads, and mountain snow that could impact travel along I-25 and into the high country through Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, Thursday’s weather includes a 20% chance of afternoon thunderstorms across Denver and nearby suburbs, with additional activity Friday. Mountain zones above 9,000 feet—including Summit, Grand, and Jackson counties—could still see up to 4 inches of wet snow, especially along U.S. 40 and U.S. 6.

Although Wednesday brought rain and isolated lightning, skies will clear Thursday night with calmer winds and drier conditions heading into the weekend. However, keep umbrellas handy—storms return Friday afternoon with a 40% chance of showers and brief downpours.

By Saturday and Sunday, expect a seasonal shift: sunny skies and rising temperatures into the mid-70s and upper 70s, just in time for Mother’s Day on May 11. Outdoor plans look favorable, though sun protection will be essential.

Extended 5-Day Forecast for Denver:

  • Thursday (May 8): High 70°F – Slight chance of storms in the afternoon.
  • Friday: High 74°F – Partly cloudy, 40% chance of storms after noon.
  • Saturday: High 77°F – Sunny, calm and dry.
  • Sunday (Mother’s Day): High 78°F – Clear skies, ideal for outdoor activities.
  • Monday: High 85°F – Mostly sunny, summer-like warmth begins.
