Silverton, CO – A spring snowstorm continues to blanket Colorado’s Southwest San Juan Mountains, with as much as 6 inches expected before conditions begin to ease by midnight Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for areas including Silverton, Rico, Hesperus, Molas Pass, and Coal Bank Pass through 12 a.m. MDT. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are expected, with localized totals reaching up to 6 inches.

Travelers should anticipate slick and snow-covered roads, particularly on mountain passes. The advisory warns that hazardous conditions could impact the remainder of the Saturday evening commute, especially in higher elevation areas. Motorists are urged to reduce speeds and allow extra travel time.

The late-season snowstorm adds strain to regional travel and may reduce visibility during heavier bands of snowfall. Residents are encouraged to check road conditions via Colorado’s 511 service before heading out.

While April snow is not unusual for the San Juans, heavy accumulations this late in the season can still disrupt plans and create safety hazards. The National Weather Service advises staying weather-aware and prepared until the advisory expires.

Emergency supplies, including warm clothing and traction devices, are recommended for anyone traveling through the area tonight.
