Cumbres Pass, CO — Snow continued to fall Saturday across Colorado’s high elevations, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory for the Eastern San Juan Mountains through 6 p.m. MDT.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the advisory covers areas above 10,000 feet, including Cumbres Pass and Wolf Creek Pass. Forecasters said an additional 2 to 4 inches of snow could accumulate before the system moves out of the region later this evening.
The snowfall is expected to create slippery and potentially dangerous driving conditions, especially on high mountain passes. Drivers planning travel through U.S. Highway 160 should use caution, reduce speed, and allow extra time.
The advisory adds to a late-season weather pattern that has brought sporadic snowfall across southern Colorado. While snow totals are moderate, elevation and terrain continue to present travel risks, particularly for those heading into the mountains for weekend recreation.
Motorists can check real-time road updates by calling 511 or visiting the Colorado Department of Transportation website. Residents and travelers are urged to remain alert for changing conditions and delay travel if possible until after the advisory expires Saturday evening.
Snow tapering off is expected overnight with improved conditions into Sunday.
