Pueblo, Colo. – Severe thunderstorms are expected to erupt across southeastern Colorado Friday afternoon, with tornadoes, giant hail, and winds up to 80 mph likely in the most intense cells.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms will develop over the mountains around noon and intensify as they push east across the I-25 corridor between 2 and 3 p.m. Areas south of Highway 50, including Springfield and Lamar, face the highest risk between 3 and 8 p.m. The region is under an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe weather.
The most dangerous threats include hail up to 3 inches in diameter, isolated tornadoes, and widespread wind damage. Flash flooding is also a concern, particularly in low-lying or recently saturated areas.
Drivers along U.S. 287 and U.S. 50 should avoid travel during peak storm hours. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and have multiple ways to receive warnings — including NOAA Weather Radio and phone alerts.
This is Colorado’s most significant severe weather day so far this June. Another update is expected by early evening as storms approach Kansas and Oklahoma.
