Colorado Springs, CO –Storms packing 60 mph wind gusts and hail up to the size of quarters are expected to erupt across southern Colorado Thursday afternoon, creating travel disruptions and flash flood concerns along major corridors like Highway 50 and I-25.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, Thursday’s storms will ignite over the mountains early in the afternoon, pushing east into Colorado Springs, Canon City, and Pueblo by late day. The greatest storm threat spans Thursday and Friday, with strong to severe storms expected both afternoons. Heavy rainfall over already saturated ground could lead to flash flooding—particularly in areas impacted by recent rainfall.
Localized flooding and dangerous lightning could impact evening commutes and outdoor events. Residents should secure loose outdoor items and remain weather-aware through Friday evening. A tornado cannot be ruled out either day, the NWS warns.
Thursday’s high will hit 72°F, with 80% chance of thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Rainfall could exceed a quarter inch in strong storms. The active pattern continues into Friday, with a high near 71°F and more afternoon storms. Conditions calm heading into the weekend, with sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s Saturday and low 80s Sunday.
