Grand Junction, Colorado – Another round of storms is moving across western Colorado Tuesday afternoon, bringing scattered showers, gusty winds, and the potential for small hail, especially across higher terrain.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, a few inches of snow are possible over the San Juan Mountains and parts of the central Divide by tonight. The storm system is expected to impact travel through mountain passes, where slick roads and reduced visibility could pose hazards.
Communities across the southern and central mountains—especially along U.S. 550 near Red Mountain Pass and U.S. 160 over Wolf Creek Pass—should prepare for slippery conditions. Afternoon and evening storms may also impact areas near Gunnison, Pagosa Springs, and Telluride. While precipitation in the valleys will likely fall as rain, snow is likely at elevations above 9,000 feet.
High temperatures are running 5 to 10 degrees below seasonal averages, adding to the chill across the high country. Residents are encouraged to delay mountain travel, monitor road conditions, and keep emergency kits in their vehicles.
Storm chances taper later this evening, but unsettled weather may linger through midweek. Updates will continue from the NWS as conditions evolve.
