Denver, Colorado – Spring storms are stirring trouble across Colorado just as May kicks off, with Thursday evening thunderstorms ushering in a weekend fire risk.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue through Thursday night. Gusty winds and light rain could make for slippery driving, especially near I-25 and across the Denver metro. Thursday’s high will hit 62°F before a cooler night in the low 40s.

Friday turns dry and calmer, with highs in the mid-60s. But Saturday marks the warmest day of the week — reaching 76°F — and the strongest fire danger so far this spring. Breezy, dry air over the plains will elevate wildfire risks from Larimer to Lincoln County. Outdoor burns should be avoided, and residents are urged to secure loose materials and stay fire-aware.

By Sunday, thunderstorm chances return. Winds pick up again as temps rise into the upper 70s, especially in eastern counties like Morgan and Weld. Showers and storms become more widespread Monday afternoon and persist into Tuesday, potentially bringing stronger cells to far eastern Colorado.

🔎 5-Day Forecast for Denver Area:

Friday: Sunny, high 66°F, light northeast wind.

Saturday: Sunny and warm, high near 76°F, breezy.

Sunday: Chance of storms in the afternoon, high 77°F, gusty.

Monday: Showers and possible thunder by afternoon, high 71°F.

Tuesday: Rain and thunderstorms likely, high 62°F.
