Denver, CO – A mix of rain and snow is expected to complicate travel across Colorado on Tuesday, particularly in the high country. Early forecasts predict significant snowfall above 9,000 feet, with potential for slick roads along mountain passes and freezing conditions overnight.
According to the National Weather Service, rain is expected to develop in Denver by Tuesday morning, transitioning to a rain-snow mix late in the evening. Travel along the I-25 corridor may see reduced visibility and wet roads during peak commute times. Mountain areas, including Summit and Grand counties, could see snow accumulations exceeding six inches, creating challenging conditions for holiday travelers.
Temperatures on Tuesday will climb to a high of 53°F in Denver before dropping to the low 30s overnight. Winds will remain light, but icy conditions are expected after sunset. Rain and snow will persist into Wednesday, with snowfall becoming widespread across the plains and urban areas by early morning.
Looking ahead, Thanksgiving Day is forecast to be sunny but cold, with highs near 39°F. Travel on Thursday is expected to improve statewide, but lingering icy patches may affect early morning drivers. Friday and Saturday will remain mostly clear, with daytime highs in the mid-40s.
Drivers are urged to check road conditions at cotrip.org and prepare for winter driving with chains or snow tires when traveling to higher elevations. Avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
