The alert covers Fremont, Alamosa, Huerfano, and Las Animas counties, including key travel routes like Highway 50. Residents should avoid outdoor burning and secure loose objects to prevent fire spread and wind damage.
Thursday continues the critical fire weather pattern with widespread gusts near 50 mph and blowing dust likely in the afternoon. A cooler pattern begins Thursday night, bringing chances for showers and mountain snow into the weekend. Temperatures will also begin to fall by Friday, especially in the high country.
