Colorado – Snow swirls across open stretches of roadway this morning as bitter cold locks in across southern Colorado. Wind rattles signs and pushes powdery snow across lanes, creating a stark reminder that winter remains firmly in control.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, hazardous winter conditions persist across the region through tonight. Snow showers continue around Colorado Springs and Pueblo, with additional light accumulation expected. While snowfall totals stay modest in lower elevations, blowing snow and reduced visibility create dangerous travel, especially along I-25, Highway 24, and exposed county roads.

Temperatures tell the harsher story. Colorado Springs started the morning near zero, with wind chills plunging below minus 10. Gusty winds combine with snow to produce brief whiteout conditions, particularly near the Palmer Divide and higher terrain. Travel through mountain passes and open plains may become hazardous quickly. Drivers should carry winter gear and avoid unnecessary trips.

Snow tapers later today, but the cold intensifies. Overnight lows fall to or below zero across much of the area. Any melted snow refreezes fast, increasing the risk of flash freezing on bridges, ramps, and untreated roads. Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in under 30 minutes during peak wind chills.

Sunday brings gradual improvement. Snow showers diminish, and skies begin to clear. Highs reach the low 20s, still well below normal. Winds ease slightly, though lingering ice remains a concern through the day.

A notable warm-up arrives Monday. Sunshine returns, pushing highs into the low 40s across Colorado Springs and Pueblo. Melting snow during the afternoon may refreeze after sunset, keeping evening travel tricky. By Tuesday and Wednesday, temperatures climb into the mid to upper 40s with dry conditions.

Looking ahead, longer-range outlooks suggest above-normal warmth building late next week across the Rockies, while major winter storms focus farther east.
