Pueblo, Colorado – Scattered thunderstorms will develop over Colorado’s southern mountains Friday and Saturday, while the eastern plains heat up under mostly sunny skies, with temperatures climbing near 90°F by Saturday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, near-normal highs are expected Friday, with more noticeable warming into Saturday. Most of the state will stay dry Friday, but the San Juans and southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains could see isolated storms by evening.

On Saturday, thunderstorm coverage will expand across the high country, especially west of I-25. Communities in and near Alamosa, Trinidad, and Salida may see brief downpours, gusty winds, and lightning during the afternoon hours. Meanwhile, cities like Pueblo, La Junta, and Lamar will stay mostly dry and hot, with highs ranging from the upper 80s to low 90s.

Travelers heading into the mountains this weekend should watch for changing weather, especially during afternoon and early evening hours. Lightning and sudden rain could create slick roads or hiking hazards.

Thunderstorm chances remain focused over the high terrain through Saturday night, with no major threats expected for the plains. Another update is expected early Saturday with any changes to storm timing or intensity.
