Grand Junction, Colo. – Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will sweep across Colorado’s high terrain Tuesday, bringing gusty winds and even light snow to some of the state’s highest peaks.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, the heaviest activity is expected over the southern and central Colorado mountains through the afternoon. While storms remain isolated, gusty outflow winds could pose travel issues along exposed ridgelines and mountain passes.

The towns of Telluride, Crested Butte, and areas along the Continental Divide should prepare for limited visibility and slick conditions, especially above 10,000 feet. Light snow is possible at higher elevations, which could catch backcountry hikers and spring travelers off guard.

High temperatures across western Colorado will remain close to seasonal averages for late April, but rapid weather changes in higher elevations could still impact plans. Drivers heading through U.S. 550 or U.S. 50 should watch for sudden wind gusts and brief downpours.

Isolated storm chances may linger into the early evening, but most activity is expected to taper off overnight. Another round of mountain showers is possible later this week.
