Pueblo, Colorado – Fire danger is high across Colorado’s San Luis Valley and the eastern plains, including the I-25 corridor, through Monday evening. Gusty winds ranging from 40 to 55 mph are expected today, with the strongest gusts over the San Luis Valley and Raton Mesa. In addition to these powerful winds, humidity levels will dip to single digits, creating an elevated risk for wildfires.

According to the National Weather Service, a Red Flag Warning is in effect for the region from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with conditions expected to remain hazardous into Monday. Winds will remain intense, with gusts of up to 55 mph expected this afternoon. Monday’s winds could reach 40 mph, though they are expected to be somewhat less severe.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, including the use of grills and machinery, and to refrain from tossing cigarette butts. Authorities are also advising extra caution when traveling in high-wind areas.

The cold front set to arrive tomorrow will bring a slight reduction in wind intensity but will not completely eliminate the fire danger. Stay tuned for updated warnings as conditions evolve.
