Colorado Springs, CO — Drivers in southern Colorado should prepare for hazardous weather this weekend, with patchy fog and heavy snowfall expected to impact travel. Fog is reducing visibility along the Highway 50 corridor, particularly around the San Luis Valley, and the conditions are forecasted to persist through Saturday morning. Additionally, a winter storm warning remains in effect until early Saturday, which could lead to treacherous roadways.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pueblo, visibility may be significantly limited in fog-prone areas, and snowfall could further complicate driving conditions along Interstate 25 and Highway 160. The NWS warns that snow accumulation of up to 8 inches could fall through Friday night, particularly affecting southeastern mountain regions and the Raton Mesa area. Wind gusts up to 30 mph are likely, potentially creating whiteout conditions.

Extended Forecast and Road Conditions

Saturday is expected to clear up somewhat, with temperatures reaching around 40°F in Pueblo. However, residents and travelers are advised to exercise caution due to lingering icy spots on roads and potential snow drifts in higher elevations. By Saturday night, skies will clear, and temperatures are forecast to dip to 27°F.

The outlook for Veterans Day on Monday is brighter, with sunny skies and a high near 49°F, providing a respite from this weekend’s severe weather. However, cold overnight temperatures will persist, with lows around 25°F.
