Grand Junction, Colo. – Afternoon storms are back across western Colorado and eastern Utah today, with gusty outflow winds and cloud-to-ground lightning posing the main threats.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, thunderstorms will favor higher terrain this afternoon and linger through sunset. Light rain is possible, but damaging winds and electrical hazards are the primary concern. Temperatures will rise slightly above yesterday’s, and overnight lows will remain unseasonably warm — running 5 to 10 degrees above normal.

Showers should taper off by evening, with skies gradually clearing overnight. Communities near Grand Junction, Moab, and along the I-70 corridor could see brief disruptions to outdoor events or late-day travel. Lightning strikes and sudden wind gusts may affect hikers in higher elevations from the Book Cliffs to the San Juan Mountains.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items and avoid high ridgelines or open areas during storm activity. If you hear thunder, it’s best to head indoors.

Conditions should stabilize overnight, but another round of showers could return later this week. Check for updates if you’re planning any late hikes or evening drives.
