Pueblo, CO – Strong winds and bone-dry conditions will create dangerous fire weather in Pueblo and surrounding areas Friday, prompting a Fire Weather Watch.
The National Weather Service issued the alert for much of southern Colorado, including Pueblo, Fremont, Huerfano, and Las Animas counties. According to the NWS, the Fire Weather Watch is active from Friday, March 28, at 12 p.m. through 9 p.m. MDT. Residents should avoid any outdoor burning and stay alert for Red Flag Warnings.
Wind gusts could reach 40 mph, with sustained southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph. Relative humidity is expected to drop as low as 10 to 15 percent, increasing the risk of fast-spreading wildfires. Areas near I-25, including Canon City and Walsenburg, may be particularly vulnerable.
Friday’s high will climb to 83°F, paired with mostly sunny skies. Winds will shift northwest Friday night, with lows near 47°F.
