Pueblo, Colorado – Warm, dry air and gusty winds are raising red flags across southern Colorado today as near-critical fire conditions develop by Monday afternoon, especially in the San Luis Valley and El Paso County.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, fire weather risk is around 60% this afternoon as temperatures rise well above normal and winds pick up over the mountains. Recent precipitation may limit fuel dryness slightly, but breezy conditions—especially across higher terrain—could still spark fire danger.

Winds are expected to increase across the Front Range and mountain foothills, with isolated afternoon showers possible over elevated areas. Light rainfall and gusty breezes may accompany the showers, though measurable precipitation is unlikely.

Highway 50 and areas northward may see minor afternoon activity on Tuesday as well, with only a 10% chance of isolated mountain storms. Looking ahead, forecasters expect increasing moisture later in the week, potentially bringing a better chance of showers and thunderstorms across southern Colorado.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and stay alert to local fire weather updates. Fire risk and breezy conditions remain in effect through this evening.
