Denver, Colorado – Wind-driven fire danger will escalate across northeast Colorado on Monday as dry air and gusts near 21 mph sweep the plains. Residents near Denver and along I-76 and I-70 should prepare for elevated fire weather conditions through at least Monday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, west to southwest winds will increase Monday afternoon with gusts topping 20 mph, especially in areas like Weld, Arapahoe, and Morgan counties. While no hazardous conditions are expected Sunday, Monday’s gusty winds and dry fuels could spark fast-moving fires, especially east of the Denver metro. Avoid outdoor burning and secure anything that could become airborne.
By midweek, spring showers return. A slight chance of afternoon rain develops Tuesday, increasing to a 30 percent chance Wednesday and a likely round of showers Thursday. Thunderstorms are also possible late Wednesday into Friday, bringing cooler temps and potentially slick roads for the morning commute.
Denver’s five-day spring outlook includes:
- Monday: Sunny, high of 71°F, gusty winds
- Tuesday: Slight chance of showers after noon, high of 71°F
- Wednesday: Showers likely by evening, high near 73°F
- Thursday: Rain, mostly cloudy, cooler with a high of 65°F
- Friday: Showers and storms, high near 67°F
