Pueblo, CO – Temperatures are surging toward record-breaking levels across southern Colorado, with highs nearing the upper 80s as early as Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, highs will reach 87°F in Pueblo on Sunday, exceeding the standing record of 86°F set in 1943. Colorado Springs is expected to hit 79°F, topping its previous record of 75°F. The heat continues Monday, with Pueblo forecast to reach 86°F, again challenging record territory.

Communities across the Arkansas Valley and southeastern plains, including La Junta, Lamar, and Springfield, will see highs ranging from the mid-80s to near 90°F through Monday. Even higher elevations such as Alamosa are expected to climb into the 70s, which is well above seasonal averages.

This early-season heat increases dehydration risk, especially during peak afternoon hours between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity, and check on vulnerable individuals.

A cooldown begins by midweek, with highs dropping into the 50s and 60s and overnight lows dipping into the 30s. More unsettled weather is expected to follow, bringing a shift away from the early spring heat surge.
