Denver, Colorado – A tornado watch is in effect across much of eastern Colorado until 9 p.m. MDT Friday, as severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds track across the region.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Tornado Watch 378 covers 19 counties, including major population centers like Denver, Pueblo, and Colorado Springs. The risk zone stretches from the Front Range to the eastern plains, including Arapahoe, El Paso, and Baca counties.
Communities in the watch area should prepare for rapidly changing weather. Strong supercells may develop this afternoon and evening, bringing the potential for brief tornadoes, hail up to 2 inches in diameter, and wind gusts exceeding 60 mph. Interstate corridors like I-25 and I-70 may be impacted by sudden storms, lowering visibility and increasing crash risk.
Residents are advised to monitor local weather alerts, move vehicles to covered areas, and review tornado safety plans. School events and outdoor activities should be delayed or relocated indoors.
This is Colorado’s most widespread tornado watch of the season so far. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or local stations for updates as storms develop. Additional watches or warnings may be issued into the evening.
