Denver, CO – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for northeast and east-central Colorado on Tuesday, September 17. The watch is effective until 9 p.m. MDT, and residents should be prepared for damaging winds and hail.
According to the NWS Storm Prediction Center, high-based convection is expected to develop, increasing in coverage and intensity throughout the afternoon and evening. Wind gusts could reach up to 80 mph, with isolated hail events of up to 1 inch in diameter. This could result in downed trees, power outages, and flying debris, making travel hazardous.
The severe weather threat is concentrated within 80 miles east and west of a line extending from Burlington, CO, to north of Torrington, WY. Residents are urged to monitor weather updates and take shelter if warnings are issued.
