Pueblo, Colo. – Severe thunderstorms are expected to erupt across Colorado’s eastern plains Wednesday afternoon, bringing the threat of destructive winds, large hail, and even isolated tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the greatest risk spans from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., with strong to severe storms likely to affect areas including Pueblo, La Junta, Lamar, and Springfield. Gusts up to 70 mph and hail as large as two inches are possible, along with brief but intense rainfall capable of causing localized flash flooding.

Communities in southeastern Colorado—especially in the Arkansas River Valley and along I-25—should prepare for sudden downpours and low visibility during evening commutes. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during active storms, and monitor alerts via NOAA Weather Radio or local emergency services.

More storms are likely through Thursday across southern Colorado, with continued chances of hail and heavy rain. Storm activity may linger into the weekend, particularly in mountain areas and along the Continental Divide.

Severe weather warnings remain in effect through tonight. Additional advisories may follow if conditions worsen.
