Colorado Springs, CO – A fire weather alert has been issued across central and southern Colorado as critical fire conditions threaten several counties Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the Fire Weather Watch remains in effect from Saturday morning through Saturday evening. Southwest winds between 15 and 30 mph, with gusts reaching 45 mph, will combine with relative humidity as low as 5%. These conditions pose a serious wildfire risk across key corridors, including U.S. Highway 50, which runs through Pueblo and Crowley Counties.

The warning impacts multiple regions: El Paso, Teller, Lake, Chaffee, and Crowley counties are all at risk. Areas such as Monument, Colorado Springs, and Ordway are specifically mentioned in the alert. Winds will peak midday Saturday, especially in exposed areas along the eastern slopes and valleys.

Residents are urged to avoid open flames, postpone outdoor burning, and secure loose items that could ignite or be carried by high winds. Authorities may issue Red Flag Warnings if conditions worsen.
