Denver, Colorado – A strong spring storm is charging into Colorado Monday afternoon, bringing rain, thunder, and mountain snow that could snarl travel through Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, snow levels will fall from 10,000 feet late Monday to 8,000 feet by Tuesday night, increasing the risk for slick roads across the eastern slopes of the Front Range. Showers begin Monday after noon in Denver, with thunderstorms and gusts up to 29 mph possible.

Localized flooding, especially near I-25 and the I-70 mountain corridors, may occur Monday night into Tuesday due to persistent downpours. Accumulating snow is expected above 9,000 feet, with reduced visibility and hazardous driving conditions in areas like Berthoud Pass and Rabbit Ears Pass.

By Tuesday, snow and rain continue, with a 90% chance of precipitation in Denver and surrounding counties. The mix could disrupt morning and evening commutes along key highways.

What to do now:
Coloradans should avoid unnecessary mountain travel after Monday evening. Keep devices charged, bring emergency kits in vehicles, and monitor CDOT updates if traveling along I-70 or U.S. 285.

Looking ahead:

  • Tuesday: High 52°F, heavy showers
  • Wednesday: High 58°F, thunder possible
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny, slight chance of PM showers, high 71°F
  • Friday: More showers, high 74°F
  • Saturday: Partly cloudy, isolated storms, high near 76°F
