Colorado Springs, CO – A messy spring storm system threatens to snarl travel and slow commutes along the I-25 corridor through late Saturday.

Heavy wet snow, gusty winds, and a chance for thunderstorms will sweep through southern Colorado beginning Friday afternoon. Roads in higher elevations, including Monument Hill and the southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains, may become slick and slushy. Drivers should plan for slower travel and reduced visibility, especially Friday evening into Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, snow showers will begin Friday afternoon with peak activity overnight into Saturday. Areas near the central mountains and the Pikes Peak region could see 4 to 6 inches, while lower elevations may receive up to 3 inches of wet accumulation. Thunderstorms may also develop Friday afternoon with wind gusts reaching 40 mph and small hail possible.

Saturday remains unsettled, with a 40% chance of lingering snow showers and a high of 42°F. Travel impacts could continue into Saturday evening before clearing conditions develop overnight.

By Sunday, skies will turn mostly sunny with highs in the low 50s. Dry and calmer weather is forecast through midweek with gradually warming temperatures. Highs may reach near 70°F by Tuesday, offering a welcome break after this spring storm.
