Grand Junction, CO – A significant snowstorm is poised to hit Colorado’s mountains starting tonight, bringing up to 12 inches of snow and hazardous travel conditions. Residents and travelers near the Eastern Uintas, northern mountains, and Flat Tops are urged to stay vigilant, with advisories in effect through Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, a cold front moving through Saturday night will bring cooler temperatures and initial snowfall. A more intense atmospheric river is expected to develop Monday evening, prolonging snow accumulation into midweek. Travel on major routes like Interstate 70 and U.S. Highway 40 may become dangerous as roadways freeze and visibility drops.

Sunday will bring mostly cloudy skies with highs near 56 degrees in Grand Junction, followed by a low of 36 degrees overnight. Monday starts calm with highs near 50 but shifts to cloudy skies and evening snow showers, particularly in higher elevations. By Tuesday, widespread snow is likely, with temperatures struggling to rise above the mid-40s.

Travelers heading into the Thanksgiving holiday should plan for disruptions and monitor conditions closely. Mountain passes are expected to experience heavy accumulation, with chains and snow tires recommended for vehicles. Those staying in lower elevations can expect cooler temperatures, occasional showers, and possible delays due to storm impacts on regional transportation networks.

The National Weather Service advises checking weather updates regularly, especially if traveling through mountainous regions. Stay prepared with emergency supplies, and allow extra time for holiday travel plans.
