Pueblo, Colorado – Severe thunderstorms could rattle southeast Colorado today, bringing large hail, damaging winds, and a risk of tornadoes to communities along the I-25 corridor and into the southeast plains.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms will begin to develop over the mountains and Palmer Divide around noon Thursday before pushing eastward through the afternoon and evening. Areas from Trinidad to La Junta and Lamar are most at risk. Potential threats include hail between 1 to 2 inches in diameter, wind gusts topping 70 mph, localized flash flooding, and one or two isolated tornadoes.
Cities like Pueblo, Walsenburg, and Springfield should brace for afternoon travel disruptions and power outages. Drivers are urged to stay off roads during active storms, especially on U.S. 50 and I-25, where visibility may drop rapidly. Those with outdoor plans should monitor warnings and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.
Storm strength and coverage are expected to peak late afternoon through early evening. More severe weather could develop Friday if conditions remain favorable.
